Structures ranged from one to three stories in height and were generally built with wide verandahs and decorative classical mouldings.  His Majesty's Theatre, opened in 1904, reflects the opulence, optimism and confidence in the future of Australia and the Empire which characterized the period around Federation.
New entertainment complexes were built in the 1960s and 1970s in particular, representing a desire to cater for mass audiences.  The Perth Concert Hall and the Entertainment Centre, provided Western Australia with new facilities capable of catering for international artists.
