Oil and Gas continued

State's first commercial field commencing production in 1967.  Within eight years of drilling Wapet had produced its 100 millionth barrel of oil from Barrow Island. 
By 1992, the tally was up to 250 million.   At the end of the twentieth century there were over 400 production wells on the island. Although, in 1971, production peaked at 50,000 barrels of oil a day, the average in 2001 was around 14,000.
