1930s

Throughout this period visitors to Perth found much charm in the city.  A touring English cricketer, Neville Cardus, wrote in 1937 that  "I did not expect to find Perth half as beautiful as it is - nobody told me about it.  If Perth were an English town it would be a health resort, and artists who draw advertisements, of winter places to rest and repose, would make the most of the Swan river, the plane trees, the clean dignity that reigns everywhere."
