WA Musical Memories Online A Digital collection of printed music from Western Australia and the nation

MusicAustralia Project

MusicAustralia aims to develop a web-based music service providing integrated access to Australian music resources and information.

It is a joint project between the National Library Australia and other state and national institutions and Title Pages music in all its formats including musical scores, recordings and multimedia presentations, and across styles and genres. Both heritage and contemporary material are included.
Initially the National Library developed a pilot project to test the technical requirements for the service and the ability of the interface to deliver digital music objects across different formats, organisations and sectors from a single web interface.

Following the pilot, the National Library approached five of the State Libraries to become involved in the production level service.

A major challenge of the project was to make the site behave in the same way as a physical music score, turning pages electronically and enabling the user to view the music at a size similar to the physical item.
