At Work continued

The factory, like the family, was an authoritarian and patriarchal organisation. The photographs in this section were all taken as promotional tools. Their purpose is to show the advanced nature and the industrial efficiency of Western Australia. It seems that before now we have not noticed that the workers at those great machines are all women. They toil in the role of dutiful worker as they are dutiful daughters, wives and mothers. There is no expectation that they will be promoted and seemingly an acceptance that they will return from the factory to their 'true' roles in the home.
