The  Western Australian State Library Custodians Inc. created the Save Our Century Fund as a vehicle for raising funds for the preservation of important documentary records held by the Library and Information Service of Western Australia. The campaign to raise funds has been marketed as an attempt to save significant "stories" of the twentieth century.  One of the important stories has been the part that women have played in the social and economic development of the State. In August 2000 a private donation was received to fund a project which would allow the digital capture and display of several hundred images of women through the century.

All the images in this new site on The Story of Women are found in the Pictorial Collection held by The J S Battye Library of West Australian History.  They have been displayed with a minimum of text to tell their own story of the progress of women. The site is linked to seven other sites, on other Western Australian stories, which together tell the story of Australia's economic and social development through the twentieth century - as viewed from Western Australia.
