Construction continued

Bindoon Boys' Town 1952

At the same time the Modern Movement became influential in mainstream Western Australian architecture - arriving in the State via Melbourne.  The style is evident in many buildings constructed in the 1950s and 1960s in which the steel and reinforced concrete building materials at the heart of modern structures became part of the main design features.  The Perth City Council "Council House" building, completed in 1962, is a fine example of this style.

Throughout the construction boom period of the 1960s and 1970s the use of new materials was more important to architects than decorative or retrospective references in their designs.
